ESTHWAITE WATER TROUT FISHERY REPORT SPONSORED BY MASTERLINE WALKER 15/7/10
Much needed rainfall over the last couple of weeks has freshened the water up somewhat, however the fish still remain deep, holding at between 15 and 20 feet and feeding hard on the daphnia. Fish have been up in the water during the first few and the last few hours of daylight and when they have been showing pin fry, damsels, sedges, buzzers and daddies have been on the menu.
Best areas have included Strickland Bay, Weather bay and Four Tree, however when targeting the daphnia feeders , the deep areas of the lake around the weather buoys in the North basin and where the cages were in the South basin have been the most productive areas, during the daytime!
Best recent catches include David and Julia Mitchell from Hastings. The couple boat fished the venue with worm and fly and took a total of 8 rainbow trout to 5lb. Julia was keen to inform me that she took the 5 pounder. Must have been the pheromones!
Patrick Kneen from the Isle Of Man also fished worm from the boat to take 7 rainbows to 2lb+ again on worm fished at 15 feet below the boat.
Also scoring on worm , but from the banking John Black from Wigan took 23 fish to 3lb+, over 2 visits to the fishery. The biggest reported fish was taken by fishery worker Chris Jones on fly from the boat jetty. The fish was a cracker of a rainbow and tipped the scales at 7lb 8oz [ see attached picture ].
Season ticket anglers Richard Maddox and John Gardner have been employing fast sinking lines and lures such as blobs and cats whiskers fished from the boats to take an incredible 2 day haul. Between them they have landed 35 fish with many rainbows in the 2-4lb bracket. Included in their catch was a number of brown trout and included specimens of 3lb 5oz, 5lb 1oz and 7lb 4oz [ see attached picture ]. John was the lucky boy who landed the big one. All the brown trout were returned unharmed inline with fishery rules!
